Highlights of Faculty and Student Participation in the 2026 UHIMA×TLCMA International Conference

The 2026 UHIMA×TLCMA International Conference (AI-Empowered Intelligent Care - A New Era of Aging Health), hosted by the Department of Information Management and co-organized by the College of Medicine at National Sun Yat-sen University, has concluded successfully.

During this prestigious academic event, our faculty members actively participated and assumed key roles, dedicating themselves to promoting academic exchanges in smart healthcare and health management. Concurrently, the department vigorously encouraged undergraduate students to step out of the classroom and engage in academic activities.

Under the guidance and support of our faculty, three first-year students bravely stepped out of their comfort zones, turning classroom learning into concrete academic exploration. They delivered a poster presentation on the day of the conference, demonstrating proactive learning attitudes and inspiring initiative.

Presentation Topic: Effects of Smart Home Lighting on Depression Rate and Side Effects

Background: This project stems from a freshman-year first-semester group topic, “Application of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Technology.”

Team Collaboration:

The abstract and presentation were collaboratively prepared by Shih-Han Lin, Yu-An Hung, and Min Huang, covering content discussions, abstract writing, and poster design. As a first-time experience, the team initially felt disoriented through several stages. From submission preparation to poster production, the process relied heavily on templates provided by their instructor. Through this guidance, the students began forming a clear conceptual foundation for presenting academic content.

Reflections:

The poster presentation proved immensely rewarding. In addition to receiving valuable constructive feedback from experts and peers on-site, the presenters exchanged findings with one another and identified clear directions for refining their work. Compared to oral presentations, poster sessions offer distinctive interactivity: attendees can ask questions spontaneously, testing the presenters’ grasp of their research and their adaptability under pressure. While immediate answers were not always readily available for every question, collaborative discussions often uncovered practical insights and solutions. The students found this debut academic exchange both profound and captivating.

The authentic reflections of these three freshmen exemplify the value of combining theory with practice. Although adapting to academic formats and scientific literature posed initial hurdles in their first year, their actions demonstrated that with a proactive attitude, every stage outside the classroom becomes an opportunity to hone professional competence.

Cultivating academic expertise is an incremental journey. The department extends sincere gratitude to the faculty mentors for their dedicated guidance, while commending the three students for their courage and diligence. We hope this record of achievement inspires more students to seize future opportunities—whether participating in academic events, field teams, or practical programs—and build rich, multifaceted portfolios throughout their university journeys.
